Welcome to diversity of life!
Science is all around us! We simply have to look at the world around us to see it! This year we will be learning about some great things in Science. We will cover the Processes of Science, Diversity of Life, Electricity and Extreme Environments. We have a lot to learn and we will be doing some exciting lab work. Get ready for an awesome year!
In order to understand processes of science, we will start off by learning about the Scientific Method. To the right you will find an interesting TEDx Talk presented by Dr. Teman Cooke. In this talk, he offers a critical examination of the Scientific Method. I would like you to keep this in mind as we explore Science this year! Happy learning :)
The scientific method
In this unit we will be learning about the processes scientists use to uncover information about questions they have. Please find some helpful resources about the Scientific Method below. Happy studying :)
Characteristics of living things
In this unit we will be learning about the Characteristics of Living Things. Happy learning :)
classifying living things
In this unit we will be learning about how to Classify Living Things. Happy learning :)
Learning about dichotomous keys will help us classify things according to their phenotypes. Wait, what is a phenotype again? When we describe something according to its phenotype - we are describing it according to the characteristics we can observe or see with the naked eye!
In this unit we will be learning about the basic functional unit of life - the cell! Please find some helpful resources about cells below. Happy studying :)
animal adaptations to their environment
In this unit we will be learning about how animals adapt to their environments.
nutrition and energy (carnivores, herbivores & omnivores
autotrophs and heterotrophs
energy flow and ecosystems
cycles of nature

In order to help students pin-point key important information that they will be required to know and understand - I like to provide them with helpful study guides for quizzes. I call these study guides "cheat-sheets".
Students can download and print these "cheat-sheets" by clicking on the following icons.
